PVC coated barbed wire starts as galvanised wire, then takes a layer of PVC over the zinc, the same two-strand twisted construction with barbs set at regular intervals. The coating shields the zinc from weathering, so the wire holds its strength for longer, and it comes in black, green and other shades instead of bare metal grey.
